Chesapeake Challenge

For over 53 years, Chesapeake Region has invited its members and friends to celebrate the annual Chesapeake Challenge – the oldest running multi-event weekend in PCA history. The Challenge quickly became popular among Mid Atlantic owners, and attendance grew to well over a hundred cars in the ensuing years. The Challenge has moved around Maryland throughout its history. From 1968-2008, the event was held as a three-day event held from Friday over Saturday, with the autocross being held on Sunday morning. More on the history of the Chesapeake Challenge history here.

The current iteration of the Chesapeake Challenge is a full day event starting with breakfast and ending with dinner and the presentation of awards. It is composed of three main events: the Concours d’Elegance, a Gimmick Rally, and a Tech quiz. Awards and points are awarded to the top finishers of each event. At the end of the day, the person with the most points wins the Chesapeake Challenge and the coveted Lufthansa/Knowlton P Long Memorial Award where your name will be engraved on the trophy along with all past winners. Currently, this event is held over one full day with an itinerary that looks something like this:

• 7:30 AM — Event opens for sign in, light breakfast of donuts & coffee, & Concours Preparation
• 9:00 – 11:30 — Concours judging 
• 11:30 – 1:00 — Lunch
• 1:00- 4:30 — Gimmick Rally 
• 4:30 – 5:30 – Cocktails and Tech Quiz
• 5:45 – 7:15 PM — Dinner & Awards Banquet

This full day event, for many, is a highlight on their calendar.

Concours d’Elegance

The day begins with everyone doing the final wipe down and clean up of their cars in preparation for Chesapeake’s most prestigious Concours. This is a judged event where everyone is competing within different categories and classes. The winners, and in may cases the runner-ups, receive trophies or plaques. Gimmick Rally

After lunch, participants depart on the Gimmick Rally. Each car will have a driver and a navigator. They will be given minimal instructions and clues and sent off to find the answers to specific questions. Trophies will be awarded to the cars collecting the most right answers in the given time period.

Tech Quiz

Once everyone returns from the Gimmick Rally, its time for some drinks, Hors d’oeuvres, and the Tech Quiz. This multiple choice quiz covers anything and everything Porsche from minutiae on up. These quizzes are typically very hard so bring your A-game. Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female finishers.
