PCA-CHS 2019 Tour & Rally Event Nos. 3 & 4 – May 18
For the third year in a row, PCA Chesapeake will hold a Tour & Rally School, all in ONE DAY. In 2017, the emphasis was on gimmick rallies. In 2018, driving tours and various kinds of rallies were covered. This year, the focus will be on a competitive event called Time, Speed and Distance (TSD) Rally. Longtime PCA member and club historian Bob Rassa will be our guest instructor and rally master.
WHAT IS A TSD RALLY ALL ABOUT?
Porsche Parade organizers describe it this way: “A TSD Rally starts with a set of instructions specifying a route to travel and the speed at which to travel. The Rally is done in teams of two, with a driver and a navigator. The goal of the Rally is to drive the route at the correct speed and arrive at each checkpoint on time. If you drive too fast and arrive at a checkpoint early, points are deducted. Similarly, if you drive too slowly and arrive at a checkpoint late, points are deducted.”
A TSD Rally, generally, is more demanding than a gimmick rally, but just as much fun and potentially more satisfying. Yes, it is a test that can stress a marriage or a friendship. But it can also strengthen and spice up a relationship. To make it constructive rather than destructive, and enjoyable rather than infuriating, participants should not take it too seriously. Competitors just need to remember that their marriage or friendship is more important than this game. Each car will be “equipped” with this reminder.
School attendees will not only learn about participating in a TSD rally but will have the OPTION of putting their lessons into practice in an actual one. Bob has put together an exhilarating route made up of delightful scenic roads that twist and turn through lovely parts of Harford and Baltimore counties. The afternoon rally will be optional, gentle and low-stress. School attendees don’t have to decide whether to join until after the classroom sessions and lunch catered by Mission BBQ. They could take part either as competitors or as checkpoint crew members.
