May 12 Garage Crawl

GARAGE CRAWL IN BALTIMORE COUNTY

PCA-CHS 2018 Tech Event and Tour & Rally Event No. 3 – May 12, Sat., 8:30 AM

Have you been waiting for another garage crawl?  Well, your wait is over!

Thanks to the kindness of three PCA Chesapeake members, we will have another garage crawl on May 12th.  We will visit their garages in the Owings Mills area and then have an hour-long driving tour to a wonderful restaurant for lunch.

What will we see? Well, you will just have to come and find out.

In the past, we saw barns that are now fabulous garages. We saw garages that maximize space, we saw new garages, we saw garages that remind you of Grandpa’s workshop, we saw garages that are for show, we saw garages that are working environments, and we saw garages that are museums.

We learned that the owners were Olympic coaches, had a misspent youth working on NASCAR and NHRA machinery, love horses or boating, and have some wonderful collections of memorabilia.

So hold the date open, and be sure to register early as this event will surely be a sellout! Registration will open at 11:59 AM on April 22nd at ClubRegistration.net. This garage crawl is a joint undertaking of the Tech Committee and the Tour & Rally Committee.

MEETING PLACE:
We will meet at 8:30 AM along Owings Mills Blvd. The exact address will be sent to registrants via e-mail by May 10th, along with the route details and drivers’ meeting notes. Our visit to the first garage will start at 9:00 AM.

RESTAURANT:
The first group of cars will leave the 3rd garage at 12 noon and head north on a fabulous scenic driving tour to Wyndridge Farm in Dallastown, PA.

REGISTRATION:
Register for this garage crawl at www.clubregistration.net from April 21 through May 6, by logging on to your ClubReg account, not to your PCA account. We need the name of every driver and passenger who will take part. This event will be limited to 30 cars and 60 people, not counting the organizers and their cars. Lunch will be limited to 50 people. So sign up as soon as possible. Driving instructions and updates will be sent to the e-mail addresses provided by registrants to ClubRegistration.net.

QUESTIONS:
Send garage-related questions to tech@pcachs.org. Send questions about the driving tour and lunch to tour@pcachs.org. Please put these words in the subject field: “NW Garage Crawl.”

March 17 Tour and Rally School

TOUR & RALLY SCHOOL

PCA-CHS 2018 Tour & Rally Event No. 1
March 17, Saturday, 8:00 am to 2:30 pm

Learn how to use Porsche’s cool GTS Routes navigation app. Join our Tour and Rally School on March 17 at the Collectors Car Corral in Owings Mills. The highlight of this event is the session on the free and useful smartphone app.

If you want to do more than enjoy owning and looking after your Porsche, enjoy DRIVING it in our tours and rallies. The school and Porsche app will help you maximize your enjoyment of our events.

This instructional event will explain our tours and rallies – what they are all about, how they are organized and how to get the most pleasure and satisfaction from them. It also aims to prepare the participants for the rallies in the annual Chesapeake Challenge and Porsche Parade.

CLASSROOM SESSIONS ON CAR RALLIES and DRIVING TOURS

  • The session on car rallies will present the history of rallying, Porsche’s place in it, and the different kinds of rallies. Steve Graham, PCA Chesapeake’s executive vice president and former rally master, will explain how gimmick and time-speed-distance rallies are set up, as well as how to compete in them.
  • Last year, our school’s primary focus was on car rallies. This year, the emphasis will be on driving tours. PCA Chesapeake’s tour & rally masters, Aniano Arao and Randy Moss, will provide an overview of tour planning, preparation and participation. Tips and guidelines will be presented.
  • But the school’s MAIN SUBJECT will be the Porsche GTS Routes app for smartphones. With the help of a fully illustrated printed tutorial that he developed, Aniano will explain how to use this navigation app in this year’s tours. He plans to make all of our 2018 tour routes available on the app.

USING PORSCHE GTS ROUTES APP IN A DRIVING TOUR
After about an hour or so of classroom time on tours and the Porsche app, school attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a delightful hour-long driving tour, so that they can put what they have learned into practice. The tour will be followed by a well-deserved and tasty lunch buffet.

LUNCH BUFFET FROM MISSION BBQ
CPR Classic East of Easton, MD, has come forward to subsidize our lunch, allowing us to charge each attendee only $10 for a buffet from Mission BBQ. We will have sliced brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken; cheesy potato and cold slaw; bread; various sauces; plus sodas and water.

POST-TOUR DEBRIEF
A short post-tour debrief will be held after lunch. During this session, the participants will get an opportunity to offer their feedback and ask questions. Lessons learned will be discussed.

SCHOOL VENUE
Collectors Car Corral
